'Ewa Plains 'akoko
Work'n-Learn Program
(offered by Dr Bruce Koebele)

The 'Ewa Plains 'akoko is a native endangered species
that only grows wild within the NTSR in Kalaeloa (Barbers Point), Hawaii.

The program's goal is to educate the general public about the unique and often threatened native flora of Hawai'i by engaging them directly in native plant recovery projects in West O'ahu.

A Work'n-Learn day is normally 3-4 hours long and usually involves alien plant control, native plantings, and talkstory education. Volunteers learn about the native plants they are working to protect, their biology, ecology, Hawaiian Culture uses and mo'olelo (stories), the challenges we face in preserving them, and how they can help.

Start time will be 7:45 a.m.. Please wear closed-toe shoes (no slippers or sandals) and comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Gloves and tools will be provided.

We are only able to accept 10 volunteers.
